Joseph Ovwemuvwose is currently studying for his Doctorate in Developing Next-Generation Terrestrial Ecosystem Model in the Department of Physics in Imperial College London. He holds a Master’s degree in Crop Improvement from the University Nottingham. In his current role, he uses computer models, simulation, and machine learning to investigate the effects of climate change on the biosphere ecosystem productivity. He is very passionate about deploying innovations in the science and research community to tackle practical existential problems such food security, climate equity, and enabling minority communities to gain access to platforms where they could improve their technical and digital skills. Joseph is working with various international teams in the sciencitific community to broaden the scope of the impact of his research endeavour.
He currently manages the websites of Climate Photography Competition-Imperial College London and Gratham Instutitute and Emmu Group Ltd, a tech startup focused on: (1.) Enabling talented writers from under represented compunity to gain access to platform to develop their skills and make their available and accessible to a wider audience through Emmu Books; (2.) Develop technology to improve carbon credit calculation to enhance equity in climate change mitigation strategies through Emmu Innovate. He has previously worked at Universite de Montpellier and Institut de Recherche pour le Developpement (IRD) both in France in a multidisciplinary team to develop a portable nuclear magnetic resonance device to investigate the interaction of plants ecophysiological traits (carbon and water metabolism) with the environment. The research project involved big data, machine modelling and experimentation. He has founded two startups: Joephotos (a photography company) and Jagro (an agro-allied company). He suspended their operations to continue with his studies so he could be better equipped with skills and knowledge before advancing his entrepreneurial aspirations.
Joseph Ovwemuvwose has studied and worked in two continents, lived in some of the greatest cities in the world including Paris and London, and been to a couple of others. He currently works with teams comprising of researchers and experts from California, London, Zurich, Paris and many others from Imperial College London, MIT, University of Cambridge, University of Reading, and many others.
